Shrink film packaging is a relatively simple concept and procedure, using different types of shrink films for effectively displaying and protecting a variety of products. Shrink films have been oriented (stretched) during the manufacturing process. They therefore shrink upon being heated during the wrapping process. Shrink film is a clean, thin, low cost plastic sheeting. The type of shrink film to be used is determined by the type of shrink film equipment used and the type of the product to be packaged.
Purpose
-
Shrink film is used for protection, product enhancement and for protecting packages from being opened prior to purchase.
-
Shrink film provides a see-through overwrap for a clear sparkling display.
-
Shrink film is used to bundle multiple products together.
-
Shrink film reduces the cost of product packaging.
Forms of supply
-
Centerfold film is supplied on a roll. There is a fold along one edge. The product is placed in the center position, the remaining three edges are sealed, and the package is sent for heat shrinking.
-
Flat rollstock can be wrapped around a product, sometimes with a form-fill-seal machine.
-
Some shrink wraps are supplied in pre-formed bags with one end open. The product is placed in the bag, sealed, and sent for heat sealing.
